Food preservation
This site does not publish canning, pickling or preserving recipes or processing times. Home canning done wrongly can cause serious illness, including botulism. UNH Extension recommends recipes and guidelines that have been tested by scientific research, from the most recent USDA, National Center for Home Food Preservation or university Extension sources, followed exactly with altitude adjustments (UNH Extension). UNH also states that pressure canning is the only recommended method for low-acid vegetables (UNH Extension). For questions, contact your state's Extension. See the preservation sources.
Gardening
Frost dates and planting schedules are planning aids based on historical averages. We do not guarantee any crop outcome. Check the forecast, your seed packet and local conditions. Soil tests, pest identification and plant health problems should go to your Extension office.
Animals
Information about backyard poultry and livestock is only a pointer to Extension and state resources. It is not veterinary, legal or zoning advice. Check your town and state rules and talk to a veterinarian about animal health.
Affiliate, sponsor and advertising disclosure
As of 2026-10-17 this site has no affiliate links, paid placements or sponsors, and the directory lists sources for information only (no payment for inclusion). If we ever add paid or affiliate links, they will be clearly labeled right next to the link in line with the FTC's endorsement guidance, and sponsors will never change the data or the order of the free results.
Independence
This is an independent, unofficial project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by NOAA, any university or Extension service, or any company listed. We make no claim to be the only or the best frost-date resource.
